It is useful to remember our past lives? Alex Caldini sheds a light into this important topic.

The Spirits' Book - Question 398:
Since people’s instinctive tendencies are a reminiscence of their past, then by studying those tendencies can they know about the wrongs they committed?

“Undoubtedly, to a certain point; however, it is necessary to take into account the improvement that may have taken place in the spirit and the resolutions it made in its errant state. Its present existence could in fact be much better than the preceding one.”

Alex Caldini shares with us how to deal with obsession.

“Of all the difficulties presented in the practice of Spiritism, among the worst we must place obsession, which is the domination that certain spirits may acquire over certain individuals. This domination is always the work of little-evolved spirits, for good ones never exert any kind of coercion whatsoever; instead, they provide counsel and fight against the influence of evil spirits, and whenever they are not listened to, they prefer simply to withdraw. Evil ones, on the other hand, latch onto whomever they can control. If they manage to dominate someone, they identify with the victim’s spirit, leading the person as if he or she were a child.”

Silvia Gibbons answered a very common question.
You can also read more about this subject:

“204. Since we have had many existences, does kinship go back to previous ones?

'It could not be otherwise. The succession of corporeal lives establishes ties among spirits dating back to former existences. Such frequently gives rise to the affinity between you and some spirits who you might think are strangers.'

205. According to certain individuals, the doctrine of reincarnation appears to destroy family ties by carrying them back to previous lives.

'Instead of destroying them, it extends them. Since kinships may be based on previous affections, the ties that unite members of the same family are less precarious. Moreover, reincarnation broadens the duties of fraternity because your neighbor or your servant may be a spirit who was formerly related to you by blood.'"

If you want to learn more about the vital principle, read "The Spirits' Book":

“THE VITAL PRINCIPLE
Organic beings are those possessing an inner source of activity that gives them life. They are born; they grow, reproduce and die. They are provided with special organs in order to accomplish the various life functions that are appropriate for their needs and their self-preservation. They include human beings, animals and plants.”

“70. What happens to the matter and the vital principle of organic beings after death?
'The inert matter decomposes and is used to form other beings; the vital principle returns to the vital mass.'"

Philosophy, religion, politics... how to combine them? Let's listen Flavio Zanetti's opinion on it.

"The Progress of Human Legislation
795. What causes the instability of human laws?
'In times of barbarity, the strongest are the ones who make the laws and they frame them to their own advantage. It becomes necessary to modify them as humans comprehend justice more clearly. Human laws become more stable as they move toward true justice; that is to say, to the degree that they are made for all and as they are aligned with natural law.'
Civilization has created for people new necessities that are related to the social position such people occupy. It has been necessary to regulate the rights and duties of such positions through human laws. Under the influence of their passions, however, humans have often created imaginary rights and duties that are condemned by natural law. Nations remove these rights and duties from their codes as they progress. Natural law is immutable and is always the same for everyone. Human law is variable and progressive, and it alone could have consecrated the right of the strongest at humankind’s infancy.”

Living with voices is a singular experience for every individual.
For most of them is a traumatic one, but many have found how to live harmoniously with this peculiarity.
As Anne Sinclair advises, follow your instincts and make up your mind if the voices are guiding you to do good or not.
Hearing voices could be what is called in spiritism as "pneumatophony" (From Greek. Voice of the Spirits; oral communication of spirits without the assistance of the human vocal system.). It is sometimes an internal voice that is heard deep down, while at other times it is an external voice as clear and distinct as if by a living person. Hearing mediums can thus converse with spirits and when they acquire the ability to communicate with certain ones, they immediately recognize them by the tone of their voice. Persons who do not possess this faculty can also communicate with a spirit through a hearing medium, who then acts as an interpreter.
This faculty is very pleasing when such mediums hear only good spirits or those whom they call, but the same is not true when evil spirits hound them, making them hear every minute the most disagreeable and often most inappropriate things. In such cases it is necessary to get rid of them through the method we shall indicate in the chapter on Obsession.”
Excerpt adapted from “The Mediums' Book” by Allan Kardec: https://goo.gl/siBuLu

*** PNEUMATOPHONY ***
“Since spirits can produce noises and raps, they can naturally make all kinds of cries and vocal sounds, including imitating the human voice, either right at our side or in the air. We call this phenomenon pneumatophony. According to what we know about the nature of spirits, we can imagine that some of those who belong to a lower order are deluded with the belief that they can speak as they did when they were alive.”

How do you pray?
We were pleased to talk to Janet Duncan in our British Tour. In this video, she brought her insight into prayer.

“Everyone admires Gospel morality; everyone proclaims its sublimity and necessity, but many do so based trustingly on what they have heard said about it, or on the faith originating from a few maxims that have become proverbial; however, few know it in depth, and even fewer understand it and know how to deduce its consequences. In many cases, the reason for this lies in the difficulty that reading the Gospel presents, which for most is quite unintelligible. The allegorical form and the intentional mysticism of the language make it something that most read to quiet their conscience and to fulfill a sense of duty, just as they read prayers without understanding them, that is, unfruitfully. The moral precepts scattered here and there throughout, mixed in with the throng of other narratives, go unnoticed, thus making it impossible to understand them as a whole, or rendering them the object of separate reading and meditation.”

If you imagine your life as one single episode of the best series that you've ever watched, it's easy to understand reincarnation.
As Flavio Zanetti says, try to understand what is happening to you right now, what is causing you afflictions, and if those afflictions don't have a cause in this life, they must have a cause in the previous life. So today, prepare yourself for the next life.
Each episode of your series must be better and better.

At that meeting with Elsa Rossi, we talked about THE POWER OF OUR THOUGHTS, an important subject in our daily life.

“A malevolent thought emits a fluidic current whose impression is painful; a benevolent thought envelops you in a pleasant emanation.”
“Spiritism enables us to understand the action of prayer by explaining the mode of transmission of thought, either when the being to whom we have prayed comes in answer to our appeal, or when our thoughts ascend to this being. In order to understand what occurs in this circumstance, one must visualize all beings, both incarnate and discarnate, as immersed in the universal fluid that occupies space, just as we are immersed in the atmosphere of this world. This fluid receives an impulse of the will. It is the vehicle of thought, just as the air is the vehicle of sound, but with the difference that the vibrations in the air are circumscribed, whereas those of the universal fluid extend infinitely. Therefore, when the thought is directed toward some being either on the earth or in space, from incarnate to discarnate, a fluidic current is established from the one to the other to transmit the thought, just as air transmits sound.
The current’s energy depends on the strength of the thought and the will; this is how prayer is heard by spirits wherever they may be, how spirits communicate amongst themselves, how they transmit their inspirations to us, and how communications at a distance are established among incarnates.”

Kirsten is a nurse and shared her experience about the process of dying.
“At the moment of death, everything appears confused at first. The soul needs some time to recognize itself; it feels dazed, like someone waking out of a deep sleep, who tries to understand the situation. The lucidity of its ideas and the memory of its past return as the influence of the matter from which it has just freed itself is extinguished and the sort of fog that had obscured its thoughts is dissipated. The duration of the state of confusion following death varies greatly: it may last a few hours, several months or even years. The ones who experience it for the least amount of time are those who have identified themselves with their future state during life because they immediately understand their situation.”

About Divaldo Franco:
Divaldo Pereira Franco was born on May 5, 1927 in Feira de Santana, in the interior of the State of Bahia, Brazil, where he is considered one of its most illustrious son. He is also known as one of today’s greatest mediums and Spiritist speakers.

On August 15, 1952, he founded, with some friends, The Mansion of the Way, built on an area of 19 acres, is surrounded by the festive color of its gardens and the deep green of the native forest. Divaldo Franco, together with Nilson de Souza Pereira – Uncle Nilson – founded this work of love and fraternity on August 15, 1952, in the city of Salvador.

The first building of the Mansion of the Way – a name given in honor of the ‘House of the Way’ of the first Christians – was located at 124 Barão de Cotegipe Street, in the district of Calçada, in Salvador. However, it was only in 1955 that the land on which the Mansion of the Way would be built was purchased, located in the district of Pau da Lima, in the city of Salvador.

A two-fold experience was being born: substitute homes, where children were raised in a family environment, according to wise Christian-Spiritist guidelines, and the children’s uncles’ and aunts’ fraternal assistance under Divaldo Franco and Uncle Nilson’s tutelage.

These homes have flourished under the protection and the blessings of the noble Spirit Mentor Joanna de Ângelis, and have contributed to the intellectual, moral and spiritual development of thousands of children who have received from this beehive of love the unique opportunity of a dignified and happy life.

In over forty years, about 680 children and youngsters have lived in these substitute homes until their emancipation. Most of them have started families, building their homes with dignity by working in their chosen field.

“Love God above all things and your neighbor as yourself."
By these words, “Heaven and earth shall not pass away before everything is fulfilled up to one single iota,” Jesus meant that it would be necessary for God’s Law to receive its fulfillment, that is, to be practiced all over the earth, in all of its purity, with all of its development and all of its consequences, for what good would it have done to have established this law if it were to have remained the privilege of only a few people or even of one sole nation? As children of God, all humans are, without distinction, the object of the same solicitude.

Dr. Peter Fenwick is a neuropsychiatrist and neurophysiologist who is known for his studies of end of life phenomena, including near-death experiences and deathbed visions of the dying person, as well as the experiences of hospice and palliative care workers and relatives of dying people. Dr. Fenwick believes that consciousness may be independent of the brain and so able to survive the death of the brain, a theory which has divided the scientific community. The "problem with death" is deeply rooted in our culture and the social organization of death rituals. Fenwick believes that with serious engagement and through further investigation of these phenomena, he can help change attitudes so that we in the West can face up to death, and embrace it as a significant and sacred part of life. We have become used to believing that we have to shield each other from the idea of death. Fear of death means we view it as something to be fought every step of the way.

The teachings by high order spirits concerning all the subjects of interest to humankind, along with the responses they have given to the questions asked of them, have been carefully collected and coordinated, and comprise an entire science, an entire moral and philosophical doctrine called Spiritism. Hence Spiritism is a doctrine founded on the existence, the manifestations and the teachings of spirits. This doctrine is set forth completely in The Spirits’ Book for the philosophical aspect, The Mediums’ Book for the practical and experimental aspect, and The Gospel according to Spiritism for the moral aspect. By the analysis given below regarding these works, one can get an idea of the variety, extent and importance of the materials they cover.

Andreia Marshall-Netto was adopted and tells us the Spiritist perspective on this theme.
Families through spirit ties are permanent, are strengthened through purification and are perpetuated in the spirit world through the many migrations of the soul.
“True family ties are not therefore blood ties, but ties of sympathy and similarity of ideas that connect spirits before, during and after their incarnations. It thus follows that two individuals born from different parents may be more like brothers through their spirits than if they were brothers through blood. They may attract each other, search for each other and feel happy together, whereas two brothers related by blood may repel each other – a fact attested to every day. This moral problem is one that only Spiritism can resolve by means of the plurality of existences."

Dr. Daniel Assisi explains how materialism is killing itself.

When Allan Kardec asked to the spirits (question 799) in what way Spiritism can contribute to progress, they answered:
"By destroying materialism – one of the sores of society – it enables people to comprehend where their true interests lie. Since the future life is no longer veiled by doubt, men and women will better understand that they can ensure their future based on the present. Destroying the prejudices of sect, caste and color, Spiritism teaches them about the great solidarity that must unite them as brothers and sisters.”

THERE IS NO EFFECT WITHOUT A CAUSE
“Since God can neither punish us for the good we have done nor for the evil we have not done, then if we are being punished it is because we have done evil. If we have not done evil in this life, then we did it in another. This is an alternative that is impossible to escape and whose logic shows on what side the justice of God lies.
Therefore, humans are not always or fully punished in their current existence, but they can never escape the consequences of their wrongs. The prosperity of evil persons is only momentary and if they do not expiate their evil today, they will tomorrow; likewise, those who suffer today are expiating their past. The misfortune that at first seems to be undeserved thus has its reason for being, and those who are suffering may always say, 'Forgive me, Lord, for I have sinned.'"
